fight1 Traffic vs Comment The resultOn 5th November, I post my first ‘fight’ post and it is about traffic vs comment.  As we know traffic and comment are the most important aspect of blogging.  All blogger looking forward to either traffic or comment and mostly both.  But sometime to have both is difficult, and catching two rabbits you might lose both, so with that in mind I ask reader to vote either the prefer traffic or they prefer comment.

I could say the fight is very-very close one, you can give much difference to the winner.  After four days of voting time, I gladly to announce that 58% of you prefer comment, and 42% traffic, it close call if we look at the number which is 33 person vote and 19 vote comment, meanwhile traffic have the rest which is 14, the margin only 5 vote that pretty close.

From this fight I could conclude that both traffic and comment are important, it is what make the blog what it is.  How popular your blog is you can take traffic and comment as benchmark.  Bloggers that prefer comment over traffic are bloggers that looking more to sharing idea, and expand it, only way to do it is by receive comment from reader.  Here some comment from my the fight that prefer comment -

Comment

comment is much more value to me. it means there are people who like reading my entries. when there r people leaving comments on the blog, traffic ensues. so it’s nothing to worry about at the beginning for having low traffic.

but i know some bloggers are really crazy to create entries just to attract visitors to the point of cracking their head. i simply don’t see the point. blogging an entry has to come natural. cooking an entry just to attract visitors… is not a window to the writer’s soul and character.

so i will just stick to comments.

by Renaye

Before, I thought that more comments show more traffic. But later, I noticed that it is not always the case. Like you said, it is hard to have both. I prefer comments because I would know that I have visitors who like what I write about. But I just wish that the comments are genuine and not just for comment’s sake.

by Marlene

I choose comment rather than traffic. Why? Comments will help me improve my writing and have more ideas to write about. Comments also contribute to increase traffic

by Tinh

Comments are very important for a blog and I comment more because it gives writer confidence. And also gives back traffic.

by Sahil Kotak

Both are very important. But i love a comment from a reader more.

I ve seen a blog with a great traffic with low number of comments. Those into monetizing their blogs, probably have good number of traffic due to Adgitize, entrecard and other programs as such.

You can get traffic easily, but to get a reader to comment, that would need some extra tremendous work, especially if your blog has a wide range of demographics.

And i see in Malaysia, most ipt bloggers do have a large number of readers due to “friends” contributions.

Comments let you know that your blog is building up a community.

by Incik RestNrilekS

That is some comment that prefer comment over traffic, you can read more on the original post.  But traffic not lost without a fight, bloggers that prefer traffic over comment mostly bloggers that looking to generate income from the blog, and the  important thing about making money with blog is traffic. Here some comment that prefer traffic -

Traffic

I blog for money, so I prefer traffic. However, getting comment always boost you. I must say getting comment on tech-software-gadget related blog is tough because blogger not think about it much. They invest their time to get new source but you can easily see lot of comment on blogging base site or some off topic site, because they post 1 or 2 post daily where tech blogger have to post more and cover their niche as much as possible to stay in competition.

by Arafat Hossain Piyada

Traffic is definitely more important than comments. A few of the top professional bloggers don’t allow comments in their blog. Perhaps too busy to moderate comments!
But healthy comments do provide some insight to your post & may lead to some discussion/conclusion. comments must not be planted just for the sake of commenting. There’s little or no use of comments like: great post…nice post…keep it up etc.

by Basant Singh

As for me, I prefer traffic. But of course a blog without comments is like a dead blog. Most blogs that I’ve seen that doesn’t have comments on them are merely blogs used to make money online. Sometimes, those kinds of blogs are like trash.

by Millionaire Acts

But still I believe if I put another option for the pool which is ‘both’, i’m positive that this fight absolutely win by ‘both’ that the reason why I didn’t put it in the first place.  Even there is no option both, but still there are comments that prefer both -

Both

I would say that I need both for my blog. Traffic means that my content is being found and comments means that I’m building a community around my blog and the interaction is good.

by George Serradinho

Agree with George . . why don’t have both?
Traffic to ensure people are reading your work and comments to build a discussion around it. Both are not mutually exclusive, they are actually mutually linked.

by SK

I too think that both comments and traffic are equally important. Comments show that the reader liked your article or they have some good input for you and the comments are their spontaneous response. But the traffic is a different case, it shows that what you write is reaching out to how many visitors. And every blogger wishes that many people should read his/her post and there should be some true reactions also. Well, great that you started this poll, it is really interesting and a brainstorming topic.

by Tejaswini

This has been great discussion for me, I really appreciate all that give though in this issues. Just make sure that you give more thought on next fight that I will publish maybe next week.  If you still have some opinion about this topic, just voice it out it never too late.

Depends on the blog type. For personal, fun or entertainment, comment is the main source like icanhazcheeseburger. For blog that focus main on business or making money, of course traffic is the priority.

for me, comments are a bit more encouraging. they show how your visitors love your posts and responds to them.. sometimes traffic aren’t that valuable when some of them are random, or stumble upon traffic.. hehehe

I guess it depends on what you want from your blog. If you want recognition, then go for comment. If you want money or ranking, go for traffic :)

I’d prefer a bit of both but if I have to choose, I’ll choose traffic. You can definitely get some comments automatically once you’ve made friends in the blogosphere

Hi Izzat. I saw your comment on problogger and thought I’d stop by at your blog. And this is the first post that I read. To be honest with you, I never even thought about it this way, traffic vs comments. I used to have business websites, with no user interaction, but a lot of traffic. But then I had a product to sell as well. Moreover, back then the user interaction (web 2.0) was never even heard of. So, my take on this would be that definitely need traffic like we used to, but now that web 2.0 has enhanced the experience with comments, so we should absolutely try to get the maximum of comments as well. I use a wordpress plugin which actually “utilizes” my site comments for SEO ranking as well. Nice topic and nice post. I just couldn’t help but leave you a comment here.

thank for willing to come, and hope you will come again next time.
with web 3.0 is coming through, so web 2.0, interaction as you say should already
become important aspect and on of it is comment. I think we need to maximize our comment and also traffic, together.
